Tuesday 3rd March - Homeward Bound
We doze fitfully and wake up to find there will be a short delay for our flight. This delay grows as it takes an age to get everybody boarded. Clearly there is no enforcement of the rule on cabin bag size and the staff have to spend ages finding homes for enormous bags out of the economy cabin. It's not as if Emirates are mean with hold baggage allowances. By the time the fun and games are through it is 05.20, we are well over an hour late and desperate for some shut eye. We have just got airborne and stretch out on th the lie flat beds when breakfast arrives, accompanied by the offer of champagne. D takes one for the team. At least we manage a couple of hours shut eye after breakfast and felt reasonably human when we got to Dubai.
A quick stop at the Transfer Desk allows us to swap the centre seats that had been the best we could get using the Emirates App for a pair by a window on the front row. The delay in Delhi has reduced our transfer time to about 90 minutes and we have to change terminal in this. At least there is the bonus of an unexpected train ride from Terminal B to A. We don't get time to sit down before our flight is boarding, rather earlier than we expected. It turns out that this is because we have to be bussed to the outer reaches of the airport. Don't they know that Edinburgh is the capital of Scotchland? At least we get another ride in one of the rather splendid Businesses Class buses.
On flight 23 all goes smoothly. We leave on time, have another breakfast, a snooze, a G&T, lunch with a nice claret, more snoozing and an early arrival. There was even time to catch the remaing six episodes of The Big Bang Theory. For D air travel will never be the same again. Getting home is painless in a rather smart Mercedes minibus.
There will be one more post when we have recovered. Thank you for reading and, if the cap fits, commenting.
